We are the Goforths and we have big dreams of crosscountry travel in an RV with our 3 kiddos.
It didn’t take much for us to decide that we needed to take a big family adventure, RVing across the United States. The loss of Donny’s father and both my parents, who all dreamed of grand adventures in retirement that they were not lucky enough to experience, helped us realize that we are not promised time.
I came across a saying “There is no right time. There is only time, and what you choose to do with it.” This resonated deeply with me.
It was not difficult to get Donny to say yes to my crazy idea of 14 months, 49 states, and as many National Parks, museums, historical places, and experiences via life in a motor home.
We have been avid campers for a decade now. From tent camping to a travel trailer to a toy hauler to a Class A. The kids have grown up camping every chance we get and love how we all unplug and engage.
This made perfect sense. It also comes at a perfect time with the sell of my veterinary practice I built for 13 years, Donny’s early retirement, and the want to homeschool our kiddos anyways. We sold our lake house and downsized into a lake cabin on our inherited property. We were planning to build a barndo, but paused that to pursue this dream first. It actually works out well as we have spent a year in tighter quarters and are thriving! We can definitely do an RV for over a year, especially with the ever changing views!
In pursuing this dream, I have spent countless hours over the past 6 months planning every detail. I have learned so much about our great nation and all the memberships, insurances, money saving tips, budgeting, and feasibility that comes with RV life and travel. I’m going to share all of that with y’all, hoping to inspire and help make your dreams come true (in a much easier fashion!). I did plan every step of the way, but we also allow for a lot of flexibility. If we teach our children anything, it will be to have a plan but be flexible when things do not go as planned!
Stay tuned for all the information you will need to make a similar journey or even some good weekend trips!)
